scenes from the weekend

We spent the weekend camping in Stanislaus National Forest (near Dardanelle) with a few friends celebrating our friend Trevor’s 30th birthday. (The kind of people who want to spend their birthday in the woods– my kind of people.) Trevor’s girlfriend Camille planned the most amazing meals: grilled flounder, potatoes and veggies; everything bagels with hummus and tomatoes; couscous with tasty bites and a veggie salad; granola with coconut milk and blueberries. During the day we hiked to a swimming hole where we read books and sunbathed for a few hours (Savastio was the only one brave enough to get in the chilly water), and at night we sat around the campfire talking, making s’mores, and looking at the stars. A good time was had by all. Hope your weekend was swell!

petit hotel hafa

I think I just found my next vacation destination: the Petit Hotel Hafa in Sayulita, Mexico. The six-room hotel sits just a few blocks from the beach, and has been decorated with Mexican, Mediterranean and Moroccan influences in mind. And would you believe the rooms are all under $100/night?! I think it’s time to dust off my passport…

b&w

Love these black and white Polaroid shots from Marco Giambrone. That first one just takes my breath away!

(no) scenes from the weekend

I shot what I thought was a whole roll of film this weekend, only to discover when dropping it off to be developed this morning that I hadn’t properly loaded it and actually didn’t take a single photo all weekend. No photos from a laid-back Saturday afternoon eating lunch, reading a book of short stories and people watching at Mojo Cafe. No photos of my friends Kate and Dylan who were in town for a wedding, no photos from our lunch in the Haight or our trip to Twin Peaks on a perfect San Francisco summer day– 70 degrees and no fog in sight! And no photos from The Decemberists and Arcade Fire shows at Outside Lands last night. (Both were amazing, by the way.) So you’ll just have to take my word for it that it was a pretty solid weekend. Hope yours was too!

wishes for baby

I love this baby shower gift from Won Jang to her sister Erin. Inspired by the endpapers of a children’s book, she had friends and family send in a sentiment for the baby, one thing they can’t wait for him to experience– his first fishing trip, his first baseball game, seeing his mama’s face for the first time – which were printed on leaves and made into this beautiful piece of art. Such a meaningful gift that certainly will be treasured for years to come!

scenes from the weekend

I didn’t take my camera out once all weekend, and only remembered to snap a few photos on my phone this week. Clockwise from top left: flowers from the Ferry Building farmers market; line outside Tartine Bakery; Tanner Goods belts spotted at Welcome Stranger; cute chair at the Alameda Flea Market

My brother flew in Thursday afternoon to spend a few days with us in San Francisco. He’s currently living in Tennessee but I’m trying to convince him to to move to here, so we skipped most of the touristy stuff to show him what a typical weekend here might look like. So we shopped, explored and ate our way through some of our favorite spots in the city! We hit up the Ferry Building farmers market, the Lower Haight art walk, and the Alameda Flea Market. We did a little shopping in Union Square and Hayes Valley. We biked through Golden Gate Park out to Ocean Beach. And we made sure to share some of our favorite restaurants with him too– Little Chihuahua, Citrus Club, Little Star and Tartine. I think he had a good time. We’ll see if it was good enough to consider moving! :)

garza design + build

A while back I bookmarked a photo a friend of mine took of an amazing leather chair at a hotel he was staying at in Austin, Texas. I couldn’t figure out who made it at the time and had forgotten about it until cleaning out my bookmarks recently. But this time I searched a little harder and was able to track down the designer: Jamey Garza of Garza Design + Build. Aren’t the chairs gorgeous? I’m particularly fond of the Desert Round Lounge.

scenes from the weekend

Nolan and I decided fairly last minute (Thursday night!) to get away for the weekend, and booked two nights at a little cottage just south of Mendocino. The weather was cool and foggy the whole time, perfect for a cozy relaxing weekend. We explored Mendocino Saturday morning and had a delicious brunch at the MacCallum House Inn, hiked to the Point Cabrillo lighthouse, then loaded up on groceries and headed back to the cottage. We spent the rest of the weekend in pajamas or bathing suits– reading, lounging in the hot tub, and sitting by the fire. It was pure bliss! I didn’t want to come home, but must say that I’m feeling fully recharged and ready to tackle the week. Hope your weekend was swell!
