Sorry for the disappearing act, my faithful readers. But I am back, and I have big news… The mister and I are moving to San Francisco!! He has accepted a job at Flickr, and we’re due out there the first week of May. This is all happening so fast (we just found out on Friday) but we are just thrilled about this new adventure! So much to do between now and then, but at the top of the list is finding a place to live. We’re flying out next week to look at apartments, and welcome any suggestions or advice about neighborhoods as we are both unfamiliar with the area. Thanks for your support, and I look forward to sharing this journey with you!

CONGRATS!!!!!!!! I love love love SF and am SO excited for you guys! Let me know if you’d like to meet up or have ANY questions at all! There are so many neighborhoods, I honestly think the best advice is to spend time walking around each one to get a feel for what you like…some of my FAVE hoods are Noe Valley, Hayes Valley, and North Beach/Russian Hill.
congratulations! of the four san francisco districts/neighborhoods i lived in i most enjoyed living in alamo square across from the park, a walk away from divisadero st. where there are so many fun things to do, and a bike ride away from golden gate park where there are a number of free events and a bicycle path through the park all the way to ocean beach! just enter divisadero into yelp to see how many shops, restaurants, etc there are. i also lived in the mission district where it is much sunnier than other places in san francisco and is accessible to BART, but i found it too loud and endlessly busy and hectic…overpopulated, but so much good food. also, in my opinion, you can’t go wrong with an apt. in the panhandle because you’re near GG Park, away from the fog, and surrounded by tons of options in the haight and hayes valley. of course it depends on your lifestyle and what you want out of the city, but i hope my two cents helps a little. again, congrats. you’re gonna live living in san francisco.
yay! congratulations to both of you!
wow! that’s major news! congrats to you — moving is so fun :)
how exciting!!!
holy moly that’s SO exciting!!!!! congratulations!! my family is from berkeley, so i love SF, but i sadly lack good advice on where to live, etc.

congrats, that’s very exciting! good luck with finding a new place.
Woo hoo! Let me know if you need any local advice – and if you want to jump in with the San Francisco LAC :)
wow, meghan! congratulations! and p.s. i bet dressers in san francisco are way more expensive than durham dressers. i say go for it ;)
it is always sunny in the mission and SOMA, everywhere else all bets are off :)
congrats! that is a fantastic job!!! Cali is a great state full of beautiful places to go… have a nice weekend!!!
Congrats! I miss San Francisco dearly, it is an amazing place to live and i hope you love it as much as i do!
I agree with Melly about the neighborhoods- I lived in Pacific Heights (which is posh and VERY pricey) and on the panhandle/nopa area and loved it there. Its a hop, skip and a jump from Golden Gate Park (i went jogging there almost every day- its beautiful) there are tons of great restaurants on Divisidero (NOPA restaurant is a fave) and Haight is always a fun place to grab a bite to eat and a drink. Another great park about that part of the city is the fact that several different bus lines go through the area, so if you miss one, you can always bounce a few blocks over to another and catch that. Great neighborhoods to hang out in are- Hayes Valley and the Mission. Delores Park is my favorite place to be on a sunny day :)
For amazing shopping check out Jeremys in SOMA/South Beach. I am a bit biased as my bff runs the joint, but great deals to be had on designer stuff and anthropologie goods.
good luck with the move!
